On February 26th , several administrators of the Museum had a meeting at the "Maison de la Chimie" in Paris to receive the first prize for the region Ile-de-France for the competition "Bravos de l' Accueil" organised by the "Fédération Nationale des Offices de Tourisme et Syndicats d'Initiatives" ( FNOTSI). The purpose of this competition is to reward initiatives promoting tourism in France, initiative from an institution, a company or an association.
It's in September 2000 when a responsible for the OTOS visits us and suggest us to participate at this event. The principle is rather simple. Offices or Syndicates of the FNOTSI present institutions they want to a local competition. The winner of this competition is then presented to the regional event. The MTVS was the first at these two stages.
For the region Ile de France, we were opposed to the association "Espace" of Issy-les-Moulineaux, dedicated to the development of the banks of the Seine, and to the "chantier-école de Centre de Brie" at Villeneuve-le-Comte which renew the small patrimony. At the other regional events, the "Confrérie de la truffe de Bourgogne" at Is-sur-Tille, the "Fermes troglodytiques" at Azay-Le-Rideau, the association of art's foundry at Châteaubriant, the tourist camp of "Saut Sonnelle" in Guyana and the Rum Depaz distillery in Martinique were also rewarded among others.

The shunter CFD 101 of Corsica
Everyone was working on the shunters to finish its new engine and its revision. Whereas the engine was put back and it could make his first tours, a team of electricians and mechanics, composed of Jean Claude Pires, Georges Collus among others, made a new cooling system for the radiator from 4 electric fans of car origin. These will switch on in two groups at two different temperatures. The dashboard is reconditioned and will contain visual indicators coupled with the detectors of temperature and the status of the ventilators.
Patrice, again him, and Gaston Monnier revised the brake system that needed it a lot: mechanism twisted, used hoofs etc....
The machine went back to service at the beginning of July, but still requires some finishes.

And yes, finally the ironwork of both platforms of the T.D.S.'s coach is done. Seven months were necessary to achieve this work. Was participating to this long breath project, the team of the W.G (EDITOR'S NOTE Wednesday's Grandpas), Patrice, Stef, Juju, Olivier etc....
At first the coach was equipped with a double system of automatic brakes: with vacuum and compressed air for both systems in function of the mode. The brake was put back on one of the two platforms. Finally stepladders werre made using some pictures drawings.
The fabrication of a new banister was another hard project With C. Lejeune, our joker from the EDF company, we made the piece in iron before its installation. The project ended with the installation of the steel sheet on the stepladder and the false wicket at the middle for the safety of the travellers.

For us the adventure continues. Now we will start a similar work on the Vienne coach
On the other hand, at the end of March grounds were weakened and a rock went downhill into the trench. The block stopped on the rail at less than five metres from the needle at the entrance of the station " Le Bois Thibault ". The one cubic meter block was destroyed with a pneumatic drill for the opening of the season. One day of exploitation we found some fragments of the block on the rail.

And ten!
It finally arrived. We already spoke about it in the bulletin Number 87 more than year old ago. The one that everybody waited for is the tenth steam machine of the collection. It is a 0-6-0T Corpet-Louvet bought by the manufacturer of civil engineering Paul Frot. The builder of The Courneuve delivered it to him on June 11th, 1927 under the series number 1673. The number of exploitation will be the 26. The machine was preserved by the heirs of the manufacturer and placed as monument in a factory of the South of Paris. In 1999, the machine is offered to the Museum of Pithiviers. Not able to exploit this metric machine on the way of 60, the Museum decides to give it to a metric network member of the Union (UNECTO). The procedure started a real storm within the national organisation, but the MTVS was the only candidate member of the Union. A contract is then negotiated and signed in December 2000. When the beautiful days returned, we tried to free the machine. But due to the short time to move it, a crane was used to lift it. The SCAL' EXPO company will be in charged of the operations of loading, transport and dumping. Today the machine is put on lorries when waiting for new wheels. Since arrived, the machine has its wheels back after heavygreasing and trips behind the shunters.
A little bit of history
The Frot Company will command 35 steam locomotives to the famous constructor. The first will be delivered on the 23th of November 1880;. The last one will be our N°26. Several series will be delivered. First of all, in 1880 - 1882, a series of 3 machines of the type 0-4-0T of 6 tons and 2 of the type 0-6-0T of 10.5 tons. The machines 0-6-0T of 16 and 17 tons delivered from 1886 untill 1906. In 1907 the company received two machines 0-6-0T with a different conception which can be found on numerous branchline network as the Tramways d'Eure et Loire, the local railroads of the Mayenne or the railway of the Ardennes.
Since 1913, a new type of 0-40T of 11 tons then 13.5 tons has appeared. This type of machine will be rather widely delivered to civil engineering firms. 18 machines of this type will be delivered between 1913 and 1927. The 26 will be the very last one. These machines are rather characteristic with their low size which gave them the nickname of "Teckel". 4 machines of this type will be preserved. The numbers 11, 15 and 25 are preverved by the FACS, which confided them to our friends of the CFBS. Finally a series of 4 machines 040T of 24 tons (numbers 21 to 24) was delivered in 1923. The FACS protected two of them (numbers 22 and 24) and confided them to the CF du Vivarais. The number 23 sent to the " charbonnages du Tonkin " will be replaced by a fifth machine. The frame was used for the construction of the shunter number 51 of Chemin de fer de Provence.
axle wheel
After a recent contact with the leaders of the Swiss network MOB, they proposed usthe gift of an axle wheel machine from the workshop of Charneix. This one is replaced by a used but more modern machine bought in France. The board of directors accepted this offer for the equipment of the future workshop of the association. This machine being used in a professional workshop, we should not have too much problemto keep it at the standards for professional use.
On March 8th, this device weighing 6 tons was moved. As usual in such circumstances, the operation took place in a heavy atmosphere.
